Online
CMI meeting and continuing education class
Instructor George Wells will be hosting the monthly online CMI meeting
and continuing education class again this month. The topic for this month is
Commercial Inspections. Doing commercial inspections is not as difficult as you
may think. There are many similarities between home and commercial building
inspections. Of course, there are differences too. With the right knowledge
and a little guidance, you can add commercial inspections to the services you
provide.
The class is free to everyone. It is approved for one hour of continuing
education for CMI, CRI (InterNACHI), CFI and CFA (North American Institute of
Appraisers and Inspectors, and CCBI (Management Science Institute). The meeting
is held on the CMI message board in the live chat area where we have been doing
the live sessions for Electrical course CMI39420. Be sure to log in a little
early to make sure you have a connection and sound.
Electrical course CMI39420
Some of you have not had a chance to participate yet in any of the live
sessions for Electrical course CMI39420. We will be doing another live session
soon. Watch your e-mail and the blog for announcements.
Electrical course CMI39420
Many of you have been asking when we will be doing live sessions for the
next electrical course in the series. You need to enroll in the course first.
It only cost $36 and you can participate in as many live sessions as you want
for an entire year. If you purchased a BestInspectors.Net course that includes
all continuing education for a full year, you do not need to pay the $36 but you
do need to register. As soon as we have enough people for a class, we will
schedule a live online session.
Classroom Courses
Home Inspection
We are doing four hour classes Tuesday evenings at Skills Training Center in
Toledo, 5:30-8:30 pm EST. Eight core modules are required for certification for
anyone seeking certification. Upon the completion of the eight core courses,
you will take a proctored exam. The courses are each independent of one
another so you can enter the program at any time. You can take the courses in
any order. You are only required to take eight courses if you are seeking
certification with a proctored exam. You can also take only one course if you
want.
The courses are also approved for four hours of continuing education for CMI,
CRI (InterNACHI), and CFI and CFA (North American Institute of Appraisers and
Inspectors for those who are already certified.
Courses taken at other participating schools in the core subjects can be applied
toward your certification requirements. the four participating schools are
BestInspectors.Net (also its parent MSI International and sister organization
Management Science Institute), Merrell Institute in Bohemia (Long Island) New
York, Skills Training Center in Toledo, and Real Estate Training Academy in
Burton (Flint).

Board (OCILB) and the Michigan Bureau of Construction Codes. They are
also approved for Certified Commercial Building Inspector (CBBI) and
Certified Master Inspector (CMI) continuing education.

Toledo mandates that inspectors will be required to inspect for ICC
Building Maintenance Code compliance. The law goes into effect in May
2008. We will be holding ICC Building Maintenance classes in April.
Dates and times have not yet been announced.
If you have any
questions about any of these courses, call us at 213-291-1717 in the US

Free, live, online course: "Inspecting Residential
Electrical Systems" January 30, 2008 (evening)
The
next live session for the free Electrical Course CMI39420 will be
Wednesday, January 30, 2008 at 8:30 pm. EST (5:30 pm. PST)
These advanced online courses are FREE to InterNACHI
members and Certified Master Inspectors.
The live session for Electrical Course CMI39420 will be held on:
- Wednesday, January 30, 2008 at 8:30 pm. EST (5:30 p.m. PST)

The group size will be limited to approximately 50
participants. The live online session must be completed in addition to
the Self-Study portion of the course in order to receive your 4
InterNACHI or 4 CMI CEU's. The session will run for at approximately 90
minutes.
In order to participate, you will need to meet certain prerequisites:
1. Register for the CMI Forum:
If you are not already registered for the CMI Forum, you will
need to register for access to the Forum. The class will be
held in a pivate Chat Room in the Forum. The CMI Forum requires
you to have the latest version of Java installed on your PC or
MAC. You probably already have Java installed but you should
register for the CMI forum at least a day before the class to
ensure that you are able to log in to the forum and participate
in the discussion.
The CMI Forum is located here:
http://www.certifiedmaster.com/forum/index.php
2. Register for the Electrical Course:
If you have not already registered for the Electrical course,
you must first register with BestInspectors.Net. The course is
administered through BestInspectors.Net's Tips For Success
newsletter. You can register here:
http://www.bestinspectors.net/tipsforsuccess.htm
Access to the course and the course Blog, additional
information, and instructions will be e-mailed to the Tips For
Success subscribers.
3. Complete the Self Study Portion of the Course in Advance of the
Online Session:
All Participants must complete the Self-Study
portion of the course before attending an
online session. A link to access the course will be e-mailed
to Tips For Success subscribers.
We currently have approximately 175 inspectors who are
enrolled in the course. We will schedule additional live online
sessions over the next few weeks so everyone will have an
opportunity to complete the course. Anyone can do the Self-Study
portion of the course at any time. Participants should expect to
spend approximately three hours on Self-Study. Please do not
attend the online sessions until you have completed the Self-Study
portion of the course.
The recent live online electrical classes presented by the
Master Inspector Certification Board and
BestInspectors.Net have been very popular. Several hundred
inspectors have already completed the course. CMI and
BestInspectors.Net will continue to do regular live 1-2 hour
sessions to answer questions related directly to the course and
other electrical questions.
The course focuses on identifying the common causes of electrical
fires, explosions, or electrocution hazards. You will learn which
parts of an electrical system are most important to inspect and how
to inspect them. Identifying and diagnosing electrical problems is
not as much about what you can see as it is about what you cannot
see.
You will learn how to evaluate an electrical system based what you
can see without disassembling anything. You will also learn why you
may sometimes get false readings from electrical testers and what to
do about it. You will learn how to properly perform the tests that
will tell what you need to know about an electrical system.

what you are doing. |

No other inspection report software gives you so many
options. |
 |

XL Pro Titanium
Edition features a complete new set of pages.
These pages were designed from the ground up based on

The new pages are easier to read, have a more
contemporary look and make report writing faster and
easier than ever before. |

 |
New
Define Standard Report
The ability to define
a standard report and save it as your default or as a
template is one of the most popular features of the
Silver Gold and Platinum Editions but was previously not
available in the Titanium Edition.

New
Support for UMPC's
Support handwriting
recognition is just the start. XL Pro titanium
Edition's new pages are optimized for use on the smaller
screens of Ultra Mobile Personal
Computer's. UMPC's are the perfect alternative
to cumbersome, inefficient, difficult to use Pocket PC's.
Pocket PC's are
impractical to use for inspections because of the
difficulties associated with the scaled down operating
systems, small screen size, need for a second PC, and a
host of other deficiencies. UMPC's solve all those
problems and provide all the benefits of a
hand held PC. XL Pro Titanium is the inspection
industry's first reporting software optimized for use on
UMPC's.
Of course, if you are
using a Laptop, Notebook, or Desktop PC, XL Pro Titanium
Edition works equally well on those platforms. In
fact it is the only inspection report
software designed specifically to run on all these
platforms. |

New
Improved Navigation
With so many sheets
to select from to build your report, you need a way to
quickly view and navigate to pages in the report.
XL Pro Titanium Edition's new navigation system gives
you two method's in which to navigate to pages.
You still have the traditional line-up of page names at
the bottom of the screen in the order that you have them
arranged (to follow the sequence of your inspections).
Now you have a second, lightning fast, alphabetically
arranged drop down menu of page names that allow you to
jump directly to any page in the report.
Another new navigation
tool is the "Home" button on the XL Pro Command Bar.
There are times when you are working on a report that
you want to jump to the beginning of the report.
The Home button instantly takes you directly to the
report's cover page. |
